The Bachelor of Theology (Honours) program is designed for students who have graduated with a three-year undergraduate degree in Theology or Ministry from the ACT and who have demonstrated high academic potential. It is a means of preparing men and women for advanced research in Theology.

The Bachelor of Theology Honours program is designed for students who have completed the BTh or B Min, with good grades, who would like to undertake postgraduate research in the future and/or take a course allowing them to study a particular area in depth. It can be taken as a one-year full-time course or part-time over up to three years.
Graduates of the Honours program who complete the course with class I, IIA or IIB are eligible to enrol in the ACT’s research master’s degree (MTh). Graduates who complete the program with Honours class I (First Class Honours) are eligible to enrol in the ACT’s research doctoral programs.

To complete the course, students need to complete the equivalent of five coursework units (60 credit points) plus a 16,000 word thesis (36 credit points). The 60 credit points of coursework must include a minimum of 24 cps of units in the student’s designated Honours field (e.g. New Testament, Old Testament Church History, Theology), which is also the field within which the honours thesis must be written. The 60 cps of coursework also includes a 12 cp unit on research methods. Note that all elements of the Honours course must be completed within three years of the student having completed their BTh or BMin.
Academic Qualifications
- BTh or BMin with GPA min 2.0 overall, with 2.0 in the designated field of study
- Either Biblical Hebrew or New Testament Greek and at least two units of biblical language set books if student is intending to undertake OT or NT research
Language Qualifications for NESB
- IELTS 7.0 overall with a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing, and 6.5 in listening and speaking OR 10 years in Australia with English being the language primarily spoken both at home and work
The course is accredited within Australia as an award of the Australian College of Theology, of which QTC is an affiliate. As such, it is a recognized course for the purposes of FEE-HELP and Centrelink allowances (provided you meet the government’s eligibility requirements), and for Overseas Students (ACT CRICOS provider number is 02650E).
