Creekside is seeking a leader who is passionate about building a youth ministry that displays & declares Jesus, for His glory & our joy.

Creekside Community Church was planted with a vision to reach Morayfield with the gospel through a local church at the heart of the campus of a Christian School. The heartbeat of Creekside and Carmichael College has always been to transform lives through a unified church-school community, where students and families encounter Jesus, find joy, and are equipped to live for Him.

Our vision for the young people of Creekside and the students of Carmichael College is that every one of them will come to know Christ and boldly display and declare Him in every area of life. Creekside Youth Ministry aims to ignite faith and spiritual formation through engaging with God’s word applicable to the lives of young people, through dynamic Friday night gatherings and participation in the Church on Sunday. The ministry will be intentionally integrated into campus life through Alpha Youth sessions, events, chaplaincy partnerships, and other initiatives.

Brief history of the church and present situation

Burdekin Presbyterian Church (BPC) was formed by the amalgamation of the Ayr and Home Hill Presbyterian churches in 2011. The Ayr and Home Hill churches were established over one hundred years ago in the twin towns of Ayr and Home Hill, about 10km apart on either side of the Burdekin River. Rev Gavin Henderson had a long and faithful ministry in the Burdekin from approximately 2007 to 2022. Consequently the charge is well taught, faithful, and unified. In 2023 BPC was served by an interim minister but has since relied on supply preachers and online sermons. The church runs all other aspects of Sunday services including a small children’s ministry.

Burdekin Presbyterian Church (BPC) is part of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland (North Queensland Presbytery). The Presbytery provides ministry support at a regional level.

Overview of our towns

Ayr

Location:            Approximately 1,450km north of Brisbane.

Population:        Approximately 8,500 (16,500 total in the Burdekin district)

Age range:         The median age is 43 years. The population is overall slightly older than average for regional Queensland, however not drastically so.

Industries:          Farming – traditionally sugar cane has been the main industry. The district is serviced by the mighty Burdekin Dam so there’s no
                          shortage of water!

Education:         Two public primary schools, one public high school, one Catholic primary school, one Catholic High School, one Christian School (P-12),
one school for children with disabilities (P-12).

Transport:           Main access is by road – 1 hour’s drive to Townsville where there is an international airport. Ayr is also serviced by rail and has a small
                           local aerodrome.

Recreation:        A wide variety of sports are played in Ayr, including touch football, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, tennis and golf. Netball and table
tennis (ping pong) are also popular. The Ayr Surf Life Saving club is small and well-established. Also motorcycle speedway.

Social assets:     Ayr is home to a small, state-owned hospital. The one-storey building offers basic emergency care and has a helipad for more-serious
emergencies. Alva Beach, also known as Lynch’s Beach, is a popular area for fishing and swimming located 16 kilometres east of Ayr.

Home Hill

Location:             10km south of Ayr, on the south side of the Burdekin River

Population:        2,900

Summary:           Home Hill is Ayr’s smaller cousin. Historically the towns have a strong separate identity, however Ayr is the main administrative centre
for the district hence people tend to come to Ayr to access many services.

Christ Central Presbyterian Church is located in the northern suburbs of Brisbane and we’re looking for a Full-Time Next Gen Pastor (Youth & Young Adults) to join our team. Our Next Gen Pastor will be a person who:

  • loves Jesus
  • teaches the gospel
  • seeks radical discipleship

We treasure young people and so how we do discipleship is critically important. We want young people to live for their Lord Jesus now, but they will also become the next – youth leaders, husband, wives, pastors, elders, overseas missionaries, church team leaders, and those who witness in their workplaces. So with young people we want to undertake the serious work of teaching them the gospel, empowering them to serve, and imparting to them vision for mission. This is our vision for a Next Gen Pastor (Youth & Young Adults):

A Next Gen Pastor Who Is Real

You don’t need to pretend you’re perfect. Because of God’s grace, we’re accepted while we still have a way to go. But being real means we take following Christ seriously, and our Next Gen Pastor will seek to live out their personal relationship with Jesus in their public ministry, as well as in their private and family life.

A Next Gen Pastor Who is a Team Player

This is not a solo role. Church is a family and its body where everyone plays different parts. The Next Gen Pastor will be in a pastoral team, working with our eldership, and have a key role to encourage and support various leaders and parents too.

A Next Gen Pastor Who is Willing to Give It a Go

You don’t have to simply follow the pattern. This is an opportunity to try new things and serve in the ways God has gifted you. Because the mission of the gospel matters so much, you can be creative, try new things and be supported along the way.

A Next Gen Pastor Who is Relational

Teenagers and young people have their own vibe and that’s what makes them awesome! This role is about serious discipleship as you teach God’s word, but it’s also about hanging out, growing real relationships and having fun along the way.

Want to Know More?

If you’re interested to know more, please contact Lead Pastor, Garnet Swann. We can provide a formal position description, and we’d love to talk and pray with you.
