For those who really want to get the best possible preparation for future ministry, we offer the option of studying four years full-time with QTC. The four-year course option is designed for those who would like to broaden and deepen their theological training beyond the level possible within a three-year MDiv. QTC has a wide range of electives that can be taken in the fourth year of study.

Our Pastors’ Pathway, Mission Pathway, Women’s Ministry Pathway and General Pathway all provide for a fourth year of training for undergraduate students in the Australian University of Theology double degree – the Bachelor of Theology/Bachelor of Ministry.

This course can be studied part time over a maximum of 12 years.

This is a course of the Australian University of Theology. Full details of the Australian University of Theology course can be found here. See the Australian University of Theology Coursework Course Enrolment Policy for admission rules and processes.

Course Description

At QTC full-time students follow an integrated course of study, designed to help them see the connections between different subjects, and between their subjects and ministry in the real world. Part-time BTh/BMin students at QTC complete the same units as full-time students, and choose their electives from the same options.

This course introduces students to the sources and content of the Christian story and message, and provides training which emphasises application, articulation and practice of this story and message in the contemporary world.

The course will integrate studies in the Bible and Christian tradition with practical experience and include supervised practice based learning where appropriate.

Through elective units students can:

  • Follow study tracks in Bible & Languages and in Christian Thought & History
  • Develop particular ministry skills in the three areas of the field of Ministry & Practice

Course Structure

The BTh/BMin is ideally studied as a full-time course over four years. Students may also study part-time , but may not enjoy some of the benefits of the integrated full-time curriculum as a result.  QTC does not offer the BTh/BMin or any of its component subjects by distance as we believe that preparation for ministry occurs best within the context of real Christian community and face-to-face learning.  We do however offer a small number of Bachelor-level subjects in intensive mode.  All students must complete 384 credit points (i.e. 32 semester units) including a common core of units.

At QTC full-time students follow an integrated course of study, designed to help them see the connections between different subjects, and between their subjects and ministry in the real world. Part-time BTh/BMin students at QTC complete the same units as full-time students, and choose their electives from the same options.

Those on the BTh/BMin Pastors’ Pathway take two 6cp Pastoral Ministry in Practice units in their final year, led by our Principal Gary Millar assisted by a range of pastors and other practitioners. These units focus on the practical skills and spiritual highs and lows involved in working as a pastor or in other kinds of full-time Word-ministry.

QTC’s aim is to provide top class theological training that faithfully applies the Word of God to the real world. We seek to do this as a real living Christian community, and as part of a wider Christian fellowship here in Brisbane.

We acknowledge with respect the Traditional Custodians of this land on which we now meet. In his wisdom and love, our Heavenly Father gave it to the Turrbal and Jegera people (see Acts 17:26). On this land, they met for generations before the coming of British settlers. As we now live together here, we pray that God would reconcile and unite us in a knowledge of his Son, Jesus Christ.

QTC is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland and is an affiliated college of the Australian University of Theology. (Australian University of Theology CRICOS CODE 02650E)
