Bachelor of Theology introduces students to the sources and content of the Christian story and message, and provides training which emphasises application and articulation of this story and message in the contemporary world.
A course in theology provides a grounding for ministry by establishing a foundation in theological knowledge and reflection.
This course can also be studied part time over a maximum of 9 years
Students studying the BTh at QTC follow one of our five pathways for ministry. The course requirements for the Pathways are as follows: Pastor’s Pathway, Missions Pathway, Workplace Evangelism Pathway, Women’s Ministry Pathway, Youth and Children’s Ministry Pathway and the General Pathway.
This is a course of the Australian University of Theology. Full details of the Australian University of Theology course can be found here. See the Australian University of Theology Coursework Course Enrolment Policy for admission rules and processes.
The BTh is an integrated programme of theological training designed to prepare people for full-time Word ministry in local churches, overseas mission contexts and various para-church roles.
Students study a set program of subjects designed to introduce them to the major areas of the Bible (OT, NT, Greek and Hebrew language subjects) and how biblical ministry functions in all kinds of real-world contexts with their different social and cultural challenges (Theology, Ethics, Church History and Practical subjects).
The BTh is ideally studied as a full-time course over three years. Students may also study part-time (see below), but may not enjoy some of the benefits of the integrated full-time curriculum as a result. QTC does not offer the BTh or any of its component subjects by distance as we believe that preparation for ministry occurs best within the context of real Christian community and face-to-face learning. We do however offer a small number of BTh-level subjects in intensive mode. All students must complete 288 credit points (i.e. 24 semester units) including a common core of units.
At QTC full-time students follow an integrated course of study, designed to help them see the connections between different subjects, and between their subjects and ministry in the real world.
Part-time BTh students at QTC complete the same units as full-time students (as listed in the above Course Plan), and choose their electives from the same options. Prerequisites apply to some units:
Units in this course are completed at Level 5 and above, including no more than 144cps at Level 5, and including at least 72cps at Level 7 or above.
ATAR: Completion of Year 12 in the last two years, with an ATAR of 65 or above; OR
Previous Qualifications: Successful completion of a qualification at AQF Level 5 or above; OR
Demonstrate Academic Suitability for course: Test, Brief Essay, or Interview.
Language Qualifications for NESB: IELTS 6.5 overall with minimum of 6.0 in each subtest OR 10 years in Australia with English being the language primarily spoken both at home and work. See the AUT’s English Language Proficiency Policy.
The course is accredited within Australia as an award of the Australian University of Theology, of which QTC is an affiliate. As such, it is a recognized course for the purposes of FEE-HELP and Centrelink allowances (provided you meet the government’s eligibility requirements), and for Overseas Students (Australian University of Theology CRICOS provider number is 02650E).
Current fee levels for units in the BTh can be found here.

QTC’s aim is to provide top class theological training that faithfully applies the Word of God to the real world. We seek to do this as a real living Christian community, and as part of a wider Christian fellowship here in Brisbane.
We acknowledge with respect the Traditional Custodians of this land on which we now meet. In his wisdom and love, our Heavenly Father gave it to the Turrbal and Jegera people (see Acts 17:26). On this land, they met for generations before the coming of British settlers. As we now live together here, we pray that God would reconcile and unite us in a knowledge of his Son, Jesus Christ.
QTC is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland and is an affiliated college of the Australian University of Theology. (Australian University of Theology CRICOS CODE 02650E)
