Study @ QTC

Full-time study

One of the best ways to be equipped for ministry is to study full time, alongside others as you encourage and support each other. For those who can, we’d love you to come and study full-time with us here for one, two or three years because we believe it’s the best and most effective way for you to be equipped for ministry.

Evening classes

We realise for many, studying full time is not possible. We offer one evening unit each semester on Monday evenings from 6-9pm. Our evening classes make it possible to complete one of the shorter courses

Part-time study

We’ve structured lectures so first year units are often offered on the same day, making study accessible for those who can only carve out one day a week for study. Part time study is available on-campus during the day, or by taking our Monday evening class. You can also study part-time online.

Online learning

For those who can’t join us on campus in Brisbane, our online classes make studying with QTC accessible. We offer one or two online units each semester which are designed in such a way that it is possible to complete a one year diploma online.

What will my week involve?

Lectures and course workload

The college yearly calendar and semester timetable are designed to make sure that students can enjoy a balanced life.

For day time students there are no lectures held on Mondays or late afternoons/evenings. All lectures are finished by 4:15pm.

Students taking a standard full-time load of four and a half subjects in first year and four subjects in subsequent years are committed to only 16 hours of weekly college activities; 14 hours of lectures plus the community activities described below.  The formal class contact hours leave time for individual study and catching up informally with one another.

Chapel

Students and staff begin the week with a chapel service. We worship in song, pray, and hear the hear the Bible preached. This ensures that as a community we are focused first on knowing God and being changed by Him through his Word.

Prayer

Because we believe prayer is important, there are prayer meetings on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and Wednesday afternoons .These times give staff and students the chance to pray for each other, the QTC community, Queensland and the world. It also means students get to know each other on a deeper level, and can encourage one another through prayer.

Window on the World

Every Thursday, guest speakers from various walks of life join us to talk about living, working, and thinking as a Christian in their own particular context, and to reveal ministry issues and opportunities. These sessions help our community remain focused on serving and supporting Christians in the wider world as they seek to faithfully live and witness to Christ.

Morning tea and lunch

On lecture days, staff and students share morning tea (provided) and lunch together. We love spending this time getting to know each other, talking further about lecturer topics or just enjoying each others company with food!

QTC’s aim is to provide top class theological training that faithfully applies the Word of God to the real world. We seek to do this as a real living Christian community, and as part of a wider Christian fellowship here in Brisbane.

We acknowledge with respect the Traditional Custodians of this land on which we now meet. In his wisdom and love, our Heavenly Father gave it to the Turrbal and Jegera people (see Acts 17:26). On this land, they met for generations before the coming of British settlers. As we now live together here, we pray that God would reconcile and unite us in a knowledge of his Son, Jesus Christ.

QTC is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland and is an affiliated college of the Australian University of Theology. (Australian University of Theology CRICOS CODE 02650E)
