Position: Children’s & Youth Pastor or Ministry Worker (4 days per week) Church: Agnes Water Baptist Church (AWBC)
Location Description: Agnes Water is a fast-growing town on the Queensland coast roughly halfway between Gladstone and Bundaberg. It’s a beautiful location—the last surf beach heading north and situated on the southern edge of the Great Barrier Reef—which is why it is such a popular tourist destination. But it is also a great place to live and raise a family. We have very little crime here and virtually no traffic congestion. With lovely beaches to the east, and surrounded by State Forests and National Parks, many consider Agnes Water/1770 to be a touch of paradise.
Church Description: The church facility is located on a 5-acre block of land just a few kilometres from the heart of town, on which a new church auditorium was recently built. Apart from the old Church Hall (which is now used for Kids Church on Sundays and by various community groups during the week), the local community’s ‘Men’s Shed’ is also located on our church land. In addition, the church also runs an Op Shop that has been in operation for 21 years now and is well-supported by the local community. We hope to build our own Op Shop facility on our church land soon (as our Op Shop has always been in a rented facility off-site).
The church has a consistent track record of ministering to and serving the wider Agnes Water community, including through outreach ministries to the children and youth who live here. For children in our church family, the church has ‘Kids Church,’ which caters for primary school-aged children and runs concurrently with the Morning Worship Service during school terms. Apart from that, the church also ran a ‘Kids Club,’ which is not operating at present, but when it did, it had around 60 local children in regular attendance (most of whom were not otherwise connected to the church). The Youth Group that operates on Friday nights also has a large number of teenagers in attendance (around 70, most of whom have no other connection to the church either). With very few evening entertainment options for young people on offer here, the children’s and youth outreach ministries are well attended by young people from the general community. To help facilitate these ministries, the church has constructed a grassed playing (soccer) field, a concrete half-court for basketball court, and other facilities for children’s and youth ministries to use.
Children’s & Youth Pastor/Ministry Worker – Ministry Role Description: The church is looking for someone (either male or female) who is qualified and called to minister to children and youth. The role involves strategically planning, developing, growing, and overseeing AWBC’s ministry amongst all our young people up to young adulthood. It will include the following responsibilities at various times:
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY:
- To provide leadership and oversight, vision and direction of the ministries that operate for the discipling of the children who belong to our church—principally pertaining to ‘Kids Church’ in the old Church Hall but also involves doing the occasional children’s talk during the Service in school holiday periods when ‘Kids Church’ is on recess.
- To provide leadership and oversight, vision and direction of the ministries and outreach activities that operate for children who are only connected to our church through those outreach ministries—principally pertaining to ‘Kids Club’ but also including any occasional outreach event that may arise.
- To train, equip, mentor, and empower the existing leaders and helpers involved in Children’s Ministry.
- Building connections within the local State School (AWSS) and the local Christian School (Discovery Christian College), including networking with Chaplains and R.I. Teachers. Some R.I. teaching may be involved—a couple of hours in the morning on one day each week during school terms.
YOUTH MINISTRY:
- To provide leadership and oversight, vision and direction of our Youth Ministry, including our Youth Group team of leaders and helpers, and our Youth Bible study groups, and developing smooth and effective pathways for our children to transition from Children’s Ministry to Youth Ministry participation so that we don’t lose them as they grow older.
- To oversee and manage Blue Card requirements, and any specific training or paperwork required for volunteers involved in Children’s & Youth Ministry.
It is expected that the successful candidate has completed or is completing an appropriate course of study through an accredited theological college and be willing to be registered (or work towards registration) with Queensland Baptists.
