At QTC, we believe that training for ministry is best undertaken in the context of a Christian community that spends time together, not just in lectures but throughout the week.  This is why we have a single common lunch hour for our whole student body, and morning tea for all students and staff every lecture day, Tuesday through Thursday.  Also, at 1.25pm - 2:15pm Wednesday and Thursday during the Semester, we participate together as a single community in the following activities:

  • Interactive Sessions: Wednesdays.  Every second week, guest speakers from various walks of life join us once a fortnight to talk about living, working, and thinking as a Christian in their own particular context. These sessions help our community remain focussed on serving and supporting Christians in the wider world as they seek to faithfully live and witness to Christ.  Alternate weeks, our Principal and others lead sessions on various ministry issues.
  • QTC Chapel: Thursdays. Emmanuel College Chapel.

All full time students are part of lectuer-lead chaplaincy groups which meet over lunch on Tuesdays.  The whole college community kicks off the year with a weekend retreat away together in February.

The college week is also designed to make sure that students can enjoy a balanced life.  No lectures are held on Mondays, Friday afternoons, or in the late afternoons or evenings Tues-Thurs.  Most students finish lectures Tues-Thurs by 3:15pm. Students taking a standard full-time load of four subjects are committed to only 15 hours of weekly college activities - 12 hours of lectures plus the 3 community activities described above. This means that we can have time while at college for individual study and catching up informally with one another.
