At QTC, we believe that training for ministry is best undertaken in the context of a Christian community that spends time together, not just in lectures but throughout the week. This is why we have a single common lunch hour for our whole student body, and morning tea for all students and staff every lecture day, Tuesday through Thursday. Each week we hold:
- QTC Chapel: students and staff start off the week with a chapel service. This ensures that as a community we are focused first on knowing God and being changed by Him through his Word.
- Prayer groups: students are in a small prayer group (4-5 students) that meet once a week over lunch. These groups give students the chance to pray for each other, the QTC community, Queensland and the world. They also mean students get to know each other on a deeper level, and can encourage one another through prayer.
- Window on the World: every week, guest speakers from various walks of life join us to talk about living, working, and thinking as a Christian in their own particular context, and ministry issues and opportunities. These sessions help our community remain focussed on serving and supporting Christians in the wider world as they seek to faithfully live and witness to Christ.
- The college timetable is also designed to make sure that students can enjoy a balanced life. No lectures are held on Mondays, Friday afternoons, or in the late afternoons or evenings Tues-Thurs. All lectures Tues-Thurs are finished by 4:15pm. Students taking a standard full-time load of four subjects are committed to only 14 hours of weekly college activities - 12 hours of lectures plus the 2 community activities described above. This means that we can have time while at college for individual study and catching up informally with one another.
