Bachelor of Ministry: 3 Yrs

Bachelor of Ministry (3yrs full time)
QTC's main three-year qualifications are the BTh and the MDiv.  However for a small number of students, the BMin may be a more suitable course.  The BMin is designed for those who wish to undertake a full three year course of theological training, but whose intented future ministry roles do not require quite as much advanced study of the Bible in its original languages, theology and church history as is offered through the BTh.  BMin students may instead take additional subjects in other areas, such as children's and youth ministry or pastoral care.  We would not regard the BMin as suitable preparation to lead a church or ministry team, however it could be a good option for those wishing to work full-time in various associate roles in local churches, with missionary organizations, or in various para-church cotexts.

The BMin is an accredited course for the purposes of FEE-HELP, Austudy and Youth Allowance.

Admission Requirements:
Educational Qualifications for Admission:
Open as a first degree to persons who have achieved a Universities Admission Index (UAI) score of at least 75.00 or its local or overseas equivalent. Consideration will be given to other factors such as practical experience, maturity and motivation, and the likelihood of satisfactory completion of the academic requirements of the course.
Special Additional Qualifications:
Except for those candidates who have a tertiary qualification taught in English, international candidates whose first language is not English will be required to sit an IELTS test. For candidates wishing to enrol in the BMin degrees, an overall band score of 6.5 is required with no module score under 6.0.
Mature Age Entry:
Provisional mature age entry is available for candidates over the age of 21.

Admission with Advanced Standing
Students may seek credit towards their BMin from previous study.  This must be done at the time of enrolling.  For particulars, please call the college or see the BMin section of the relevant ACTh Handbook.

Course Structure and Curriculum:
The BMin is ideally taken as a three-year full-time course. This is the minimum time of candidature without advanced standing. The maximum time for candidature is nine years. You may study full-time or part-time, however part-time students may miss out on some of the benefits of studying in community and QTC's integrated approach to its subject offerings.

Each subject is worth 4 credit points, except the biblical language subjects which are worth 8 credit points because they are year long subjects.
At QTC, all students must complete 96 credit points (24 subjects) including:

·         Languages—at least 4 cps of biblical language study
·         Old Testament Introduction—8 cps, OT301, OT302
·         New Testament Introduction—8 cps, NT301, NT302
·         Church History—8 cps, which must include CH305
·         Theology— 12 cps from TH401–404

·         Minimum of 20 cps in Ministry and Practice, with a minimum of 4 cps from at least each of two fields
·         4 cps of SEBL (PC449)
·         Minimum 12 cps Type A Electives
·         Maximum of 8 cps Type B Electives (if offered)

16 points in core foundational (300) level units must be passed before a unit at advanced level (400 level) can be taken. Individual unit syllabi provide further detail and explicitly nominate any other prerequisites.

The unit Supervised Experienced Based Learning (PC449) is an integrative compulsory unit taken over the course of a candidate’s BMin program. The focus of the unit Supervised Experience Based Learning (PC449) is reflection, self-evaluation and growth planning in relation to personal spiritual growth through college activities or ministry experience. Satisfactory completion of SEBL is required for all students taking out the Bachelor of Ministry.

No more than 40 cps of foundational level units can be counted in a student’s course of study. Biblical Hebrew (LA003A&B) and New Testament Greek (LA004A&B) are excluded from this requirement.
